Blak, Bold, and Brilliant: Black Winter Block Party Ignites Brookvale

In June 2025, Ripple Narratives had the privilege of capturing the energy, artistry, and unapologetic excellence of the Black Winter Block Party—a three-day celebration of First Nations culture and creativity hosted by Awesome Black at Brookvale’s 7th Day Brewery.

Presented in partnership with Brookvale Arts District (BAD) and 7th Day Brewery, and supported by the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner, this event was more than a party—it was a living, breathing act of Blak resistance and joy.

A Stage for Sovereign Sound

The brewery transformed into a cultural hub with live music each night. We filmed electric sets from headliners Dobby, Isaac Compton, and Tjaka, with the crowd brought to life by artists including Elina, Bow and Arrow, and Lemonise. From hip hop to electro-soul, the stage pulsed with raw talent and deep storytelling.

Visual Art Meets Augmented Reality

A poster series curated by Solid Lines artists—Jade Goodwin, Jeswri, Dylan Finney, and K-Rae—brought strong visual messages to the venue’s walls. These large-scale works featured AR elements that blurred the line between art and experience, all captured through our lens as part of the weekend’s dynamic visual archive.

Bush Flavours & Knowledge Sharing

First Nations enterprise Bush to Bowl collaborated with the brewery to bring native-infused beers and margarita salts to life, flavouring the weekend with Country. Their workshops invited attendees into a deeper relationship with bushfoods—connecting taste, history, and culture.

Weave, Paint, and Participate

Workshops like Beer & Weave with Ella Havelka and Paint & Sip with Jade Goodwin added texture and interactivity to the program. These creative moments of making and sharing were intimate, hands-on, and deeply grounding.

A Pour With Purpose

Launched especially for the event, the Awesome Black x 7th Day Brewery limited-edition beer brought community impact to every pint—donating $1 from each sale to The Ella Foundation and the Awesome Black Foundation.

From the workshops and artwork to the beats and beers, Black Winter Block Party was a powerful expression of culture, community, and creativity. We’re honoured to have documented it all through film and photography, celebrating Blak joy, in all its forms.
