Echoes of The Block: A Pulse of Blak Creativity at Carriageworks
Subject: Emerald Brunt
For four days and three nights during Vivid Sydney 2025, Carriageworks’ Track 8 transformed into something powerful. Something raw. Something real.
Presented by Awesome Black, Echoes of The Block was a First Nations-led takeover of space, sound, and story. A live and local Blak hip hop collaboration where creativity wasn’t just on display. It was being born in real time. Ripple Narratives was honoured to be invited by both Awesome Black and Carriageworks to document the experience through photography and film.
Our role was to capture the energy, the people, and the moments. Not as outsiders, but as participants moving within the rhythm of it all.
Pirate Radio, Blak Frequencies
The concept was bold. A pirate radio station powered by Blak creativity and community. By day, an open studio welcomed visitors to witness collaboration as it happened. By night, Carriageworks came alive with uncensored broadcasts that carried the energy of the street directly to the stage.
The lineup featured a fierce mix of artists including DOBBY, Mr Rhodes, Izzy, ChillCheney, Minty, Prodikal-1, The Chaza, Yung Brother, Emerald Brunt, and others. Each brought their own truth, talent, and presence. There was no mimicry. No filter. Just the raw sound of now.

Capturing Culture in Motion
Our creative approach was guided by the event’s own energy. We focused on real people enjoying the moment. Artists deep in their process. Friends catching eyes in the crowd. Laughter and movement shaped the frame.
We were tasked with capturing everything from crowd shots to the architectural character of Carriageworks. From intimate portraits to wide shots that held the atmosphere of the space. We had creative freedom, and we used it to chase what you can’t always plan for. A beat drop. A quiet pause. A burst of joy.
The images have already been widely shared by artists, media, and partners. For us, that is what impact looks like.
At the Heart of What We Do
Blak events like this aren’t just part of our work. They are central to who we are. Ripple Narratives exists to amplify and uplift First Nations voices through ethical, creative storytelling. Projects like Echoes of The Block speak directly to our purpose.
This wasn’t just a gig or a commission. It was a gathering of talent, culture, and self-determination. Being trusted to document that is something we hold with pride.
