Four days of Blak pirate radio
For four days and three nights, Carriageworks' Track 8 became a pirate radio station run by Blak artists. By day it was an open studio, where visitors could walk in and watch tracks being made. By night the broadcasts went out live from the stage.
The lineup included DOBBY, Mr Rhodes, Izzy, ChillCheney, Minty, Prodikal-1, The Chaza, Yung Brother and Emerald Brunt. Awesome Black and Carriageworks both asked us in to document it, on film and in stills.
We had a free hand, and we used it to chase the moments you can't plan for: a beat drop, a quiet pause between takes, friends catching each other's eye in the crowd. We shot everything from close portraits in the studio to wide frames that hold the scale of the old rail workshops.
Artists, media and partners have shared the images widely. Blak events like this sit at the centre of why Ripple Narratives exists, and being trusted to document one is something we take seriously.
