Black Winter Block Party 2025: A Celebration of Indigenous Culture at 7th Day Brewery
The Black Winter Block Party 2025 at 7th Day Brewery in Brookvale was a vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture, creativity, and community. Held from June 27 to 29, this three-day event showcased an impressive lineup of music, art, food, and workshops, highlighting the dynamic contributions of Indigenous artists and performers.
The festival kicked off with performances by Tjaka, Isaac Compton, and Dobby, who brought energy and passion to the stage, while additional performances by Elina, Lemonise, and Bow and Arrow added to the eclectic mix. A new ambient soundscape commission and a secret performance kept the crowd on their toes, making each moment of the event special and unique.
Art played a central role at the Black Winter Block Party, with the "Posters with Power" exhibition curated by Solid Lines artists, including Jade Goodwin, Jeswri, Dylan Finney, and K-Rae. This exhibition featured large-scale posters that incorporated interactive augmented reality elements, offering an innovative way to experience contemporary Indigenous art and amplify powerful messages.
In addition to the visual and musical offerings, the market featured Bush to Bowl, a culinary collaboration that highlighted native ingredients. The event offered attendees an opportunity to explore native-infused beers and margarita salts, while workshops on native food knowledge gave a deeper insight into Indigenous culinary traditions.
Workshops were an integral part of the festival, providing hands-on experiences for attendees. From Beer & Weave with Ella Havelka to Paint & Sip with Jade Goodwin, these interactive sessions allowed visitors to engage with Indigenous art and culture in a creative and meaningful way.
The community spirit was palpable throughout the event. A limited-edition Awesome Black beer was launched, with $1 from each sale donated to The Ella Foundation and the Awesome Black Foundation, which support Indigenous initiatives. This gesture reflected the event's commitment to giving back to the community.
Ripple Narratives was honoured to document this extraordinary celebration. Our photography captured the high-energy performances, the creative workshops, and the strong sense of unity that filled the space. The Black Winter Block Party was a true testament to the power of culture, collaboration, and community, and we are proud to have been part of this vibrant event.
